2016 California New DMV Laws

Every year the Department of Motor Vehicles would release new laws or revisions to existing law that would be effective on January 1, 2016. We would like to update you with these changes so that you are informed with the rules of the roads. These fines are very expensive and we wouldn’t want anyone to have to deal with them.

  1. This may happen a lot and I have seen a lot of people do this when they are driving but you CANNOT have headphones or earbuds in your ears when you are driving. Having them anywhere in or around the ears is prohibited. This doesn’t mean you can’t wear your bluetooth in-ear microphone to use your cellphone. So if you were using them to listen to music because your radio and speakers do not work anymore then you better get it fixed.
  2. Electrically Motorized Skateboards are restricted from being operated on public  facilities, requires boards to be equipped with a safety equipment, and authorizes cities and counties to regulate their use. Remember that it is illegal to operate the device when you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In addition, the law limits for those 16 years or older operators, require safety equipment and helmet. The board must not go faster than 35mph. Yes, this does include hover boards.
  3. Electric Bicycles: A new law to define what an electric bike is as follow. An electric bicycle is defined as a bicycle with full operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts.
